How hard would it be to have to start school in old, stained or torn clothing? Clothes for Kids is an annual August event that helps get young folks fitted with two brand new outfits -- head to toe -- to start school in.
This past August, we provided clothing to 1500 students. Many of those outfits were school uniforms, brand new shoes, socks, and underwear.
Volunteers come from all over the city to help. Parents wait in another room so the kids can pick out their own styles and preferences.
The cost of this program can go as high as $75,000 and much of it is raised by Church of the Servant or through in-kind donations.
A good start to the school year can really be a boost towards academic success.
